Our History

Reverend William Owens and Dr. Deborah De Sousa Owens have long worked on education reform issues. Together, they have spent more than twenty years advocating on behalf of America's underprivileged and underrepresented youth. Their work has taken them to at least 40 different states and the Distirct of Columbia.

The Owens trace their passion for helping children all the way back to 1988 when Reverend Owens first founded Give Me a Chance Ministry. A student at Oral Roberts University (ORU), Reverend Owens designed the program to help at-risk students gain acceptance to and matriculate from ORU. With the help of school leadership as well as pastors and parents around the country, the program was a huge success, increasing black enrollment at ORU from 5% to 22.5% in just four short years.

Now the Owens hope to bring this wealth of experience to Mission: Education.
